Salt and Light

Can you imagine what it means when Jesus said that YOU ARE salt and light of the world? As followers of Christ, transformed by His grace, WE ARE a new creation in Him in order to win the lost and to disciple nations.

Week 1: God’s Purpose

  • You are created for good works.

  • Do you know why Christians are in the world? To be salt and to bring light to darkness.

  • Matthew 5:13-16, MSG

"Let me tell you why you are here. You're here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You've lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage. "Here's another way to put it: You're here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We're going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don't think I'm going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I'm putting you on a light stand. Now that I've put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand--shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you'll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.”

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Pray, be intentional, and know why you are here.

  • Pray for understanding on what it means to become salt & light to the world.

  • Identify your sphere of influence.

  • Pray for wisdom, revelation, and strategy on how you can become the salt & light to bring Christ into your sphere of influence.

  • Pray to be atmosphere-changers because Jesus is in you, and to go and shine in the midst of the darkness.

  • Pray and ask Holy Spirit to reveal the things in your life that prevents you from becoming the salt & light that God has called you to be.

Week 2: Difference Makers

  • Salt brings flavor: your presence is very much felt, bringing influence, blessings, inner peace and joy.

  • Light defeats darkness: stand up in the midst of darkness (Isaiah 60:1-3)

  • No compromise. Speak the truth in love. (Ephesians 4:15)

  • Don’t become a pillar of salt. (Genesis 19:26)

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Ask Holy Spirit to remind you of the blessings and breakthroughs you have experienced so far. Pray for wisdom on how you can turn those blessings and breakthrough into testimonies to share the light of Christ within your spheres.

  • Pray and ask Holy Spirit to remind you of the past hurts that prevents you from moving forward and stop you from sharing the light of Christ to others. What can you learn from those past hurts? How can you turn those past hurts into something that can bless others?

  • Pray and ask Holy Spirit to remind you of any compromise in your life. Ask God to transform and renew your mind so that you can remove all those compromising things and to truly live for Christ.

Week 3: Salting

During “Hope is Born” last December we gave out these practical steps of salting. Let’s practice it to reap the harvest:

  • IDENTIFY - Recognize those in your oikos who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus.

  • INTERCEDE - Pray for them and ask that their hearts be open to the Gospel and for them to become disciples of Jesus Christ.

  • INVEST - Spend time building relationships with these individuals.

  • IMPACT - Be salt and light in their lives. Share your testimonies.

  • INVITE - Extend an invitation for them to receive and develop a personal relationship with Jesus.

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Who are in your oikos? If you do not have one at the moment, pray for God to give you one or for more oikos. Pay attention to your surroundings (work place, school, gym, etc.) and ask Holy Spirit to reveal who you are supposed to reach out to.

  • Are you willing to invest your time to build relationship with your oikos? Pray for Holy Spirit to reveal how you can invest your time to build relationship with your oikos in an impactful manner.

  • Pray for courage and boldness, wisdom and strategy, on how you can invite your oikos to church and/or receive Christ.

  • If your oikos have already received Christ, pray for Holy Spirit to guide you on how to help them grow into mature Christians.

Week 4: Jesus the Ultimate Light

  • Jesus is the true light, which when coming into the world, enlightens every man. (John 1:4-5, Ephesians 3:9)

  • The Christian life is from darkness to light, not the other way around. The Christian life is from death to life.

  • “But the path of the just is like the shining sun, that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day. (Proverbs 4:18)

  • Shine forth and be the light to the people around you.

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Pray for wisdom and understanding for the meaning of “Jesus is the true light”. How has Jesus become the true light in your life? Ask Holy Spirit to remind you when the light of Christ shined in your darkest moments. Ask Holy Spirit to turn that into testimonies that you can share to others.

  • Ask Holy Spirit to remind you if there is anything in your life that needs to be brought to the cross. Pray on how you can live a life led by Spirit and not by the flesh.

  • What challenges are you currently facing? Ask Jesus to come and shine His light on your challenges. Pray for heavenly wisdom and strategies to overcome your challenges. Have you spent time alone with God? It is during your time alone with Him that the revelation gets downloaded. If you have never spent time with God, start now!

Let’s all be salt and light!
