Compassion Ministries

Loving God and Loving People — Our vision has always been to impact nations, reaching out to those in need and sharing the love of Jesus. God has opened up many doors for us to reach out to the communities of Indonesia, resulting in the start of several ministries that continue to thrive today. It is our joy to serve these communities and see lives changed and transformed.

Surabaya Children Center Orphanage

Surabaya Children Center (SCC) is our orphanage project in Surabaya, Indonesia. Working with Homes of Hope International, SCC currently serves 24 residence children. Each of these precious children come from difficult backgrounds, growing up with horrible past experience. Through SCC, these children have found a loving home.

SCC uses WBP (World Best Practices) on orphan care guidelines. We put highest priority on child protection and also see to it that each child is treated as a unique individual deserving personal care. We encourage academic growth to transition every child from our home to an independent life after.

Spiritual development is the core value at of our orphanage project. We believe only a new life in Christ can provide these children with inner healing and empowerment of the Holy Spirit.

Terang Surabaya After
School Program

Terang Surabaya (Light of Surabaya) is an after school academic tutoring program established in the city of Surabaya, Indonesia. The government of Indonesia has improved in funding public schools and providing free tuition. However, the number of government funded public schools are not sufficient to cover academic needs for all of Indonesia.

In Surabaya, there are around 200 elementary schools, but there are 500-600 more private schools, mostly under funded and somehow neglected by the educational system. We partner with these private poor community schools and hold this Terang Surabaya at the their schools.

Terang Surabaya supports these schools through:

  • After school tutoring projects three days a week

  • Financial support for school teachers

  • Once a week delivery of fruit and milk

  • Behavior development such as "Don't Skip School" campaign, "Brushing Your Teeth" campaign, and others

  • Annual free school-shoes giveaway

  • Bi-monthly parents meeting where we provide a bag of daily basic elements such as rice, sugar and noodles. Our aim for each meeting is to inspire, to have paradigm shifts, and for parents to support their children's education.

These schools, the students and their parents, are are all from the poor communities of Surabaya, but we have seen amazing results for through the ministry of Terang Surabaya. We currently work with 29 schools, with 3,900 students and 3,900 parents.

Kasih Bangsa School in Serui

Sekolah Kristen Kasih Bangsa (SKKB), Love of a Nation Christian School, has been running for 9 years. We have kinder and elementary classes, hosting 110 students total today.

Our programs include (1) Teachers go to remote areas on Saturdays to help teach reading, writing, and math at schools with not enough teachers; (2) Our team goes to remote areas to bring books, hoping to inspire children to read; (3) A training center to focus on youth, marriage and parenting, with activities and discipleship/coaching classes.

Our new building is planned to start operating on January 2017, and is officially completed in September 2016.

A current testimony: Three of our students won the regional olympics for math (placing 1st and 2nd) and science (3rd place)!

Impacting Nations.

It was May of 1998 when a riot suddenly broke out in many major cities of Indonesia. The people were protesting against their thirty-two years regime president. Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, became a lake of fire where many churches and buildings were burning to the ground. The streets were filled with looting, public rape, and persecution.

Just a few weeks prior, the Holy Spirit spoke to me clearly to start a humanitarian ministry to help the poor and needy. This was completely new to me, but looking back, I knew that God had prepared the solution before there was a problem. Obeying His voice was key and with no experience, no warehouses, and no money to start the ministry, I gathered a team who said, “Yes!” to the call.

The windows of Heaven were opened as we planted a seed financially. God provided divine connections and human resources. Out of nowhere, people started contacting us, wanting to support the ministry. We started receiving one container a week, but quickly grew to about fifteen containers a day. In just a matter of time, we were channeling shiploads of containers to Indonesia.

Psalm 89:14 says, “Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; mercy and truth go before Your face.” This was our anthem as we showed mercy to those in need – feeding and clothing them. We didn’t preach; we simply showed Christ’s love. Soon enough the whole nation was impacted. The Lord then directed me to meet the Ambassador of Indonesia in Washington D.C., where he assigned his delegate to visit our church.

When the Ambassador’s delegate visited, he was shocked to find us as a small church; however, I responded to him that our God is big! Later that night, the Lord gave me five visions to focus on: (1) Food Distribution, (2) Food Security, (3) Health Projects, (4) Education, (5) Job Creation.

With that, the Lord directed me to share these five visions to the director of World Bank in New York. I explained to him that I received it from God. His eyes widened in disbelief and he asked if I knew that those were the five basic staples of the nations of the world. In my heart, I didn’t know, but I knew God did.

God has blessed us as we were chosen out of 12,000 foundations to receive three presidential awards out of five given from the sixth president of Indonesia. This is only by the grace of God and as of today, we have shipped humanitarian aids to fifteen other nations. To God be the Glory!
