Our History

Our Beginning (1980’s – 1992)

In the early 80’s, a group of Indonesian college students from Los Angeles met in apartments and started a Christian fellowship. They were on fire for Jesus, filled with the Holy Spirit, and they grew in numbers.

After graduation and working in the market place, some were called to full time ministry as pastors. The fellowship grew and became a church, with first services held in a rented church building on 9642 Live Oak Ave in Temple City on Friday nights.

The church services continued through the next decade until 1992. During this time, students got married and started families, which prompted the start of children ministry. The congregation continued to grow, giving rise to the need and desire of a permanent home for the church. For many years, the congregation rallied to raise funds to buy a church building. In the end, the raised funds were miraculously provided for and the church was able to move in the building on 735 S Mills Avenue in Claremont DEBT-FREE!

Our Journey (1993 –  December 2012)

The first service in Claremont was held in April 1993. During the next two decades, various ministries were birthed. The church’s mission expanded to reaching not only Indonesians, but people of all nations, locally and globally. An English service was soon added to serve the emerging second generation, as well as the surrounding Claremont communities.

In 1999, a second church campus opened on Halifax Ave in Temple City with services on Sunday night, and later a Saturday English service was added. The congregation grew quickly, with attendants coming as far as San Bernardino. It was soon clear that a new location was needed in San Bernardino. The ministry started as an outreach with coffee on Sunday mornings at Redlands park, with more than 100 attendants. Not long after that, the San Bernardino campus was established.

In the late 90's, a new outreach was birthed from the San Bernardino campus to reach out to the San Diego area, ministering to many Indonesian college students. What started as an outreach turned into the establishment of a church body in the heart of San Diego.

December 2012 - Current

In 2010, a mandate to consolidate the Claremont and Temple City campuses came and the journey to look for another church facility began. It took two years, through prayer, careful research, and counsel from Godly people in the church network, for Claremont and Temple City churches to consolidate. There were numerous challenges and roadblocks, but the people responded with prayer, fasting, sacrificial giving and relentless trust in God of what He has spoken prophetically: “Consolidate. There will be room to build. Land is no problem. There’ll be children classrooms and playground.”

In December 2012 we had our first Sunday Service in the new property and officially became City Blessing Church of Walnut. Currently, there are two services on Sundays: Indonesian service at 8:30am and English service at 11am. The church congregation continued to grow in multi-ethnicity and multi-generation. We are only at the start of transforming our city and communities. There are still many people we want to introduce to Christ and many ministries and missions we want to see grow to expand His kingdom. God blessed CBC to be a blessing. This will continue to be not only our name, but our legacy in Walnut.
